The solution
The increased magnetic workholding force allows cutting depths and feed to be increased, reducing machining time. Magnetism ensures uniform workholding of the rail by reducing vibrations during machining: better piece/machine alignment, better finishing and reduction of tool consumption.
Quad Rail: permanent-electro magnetic system for machining rails in the production of railway switch points
Why use a permanent-electro magnetic system to hold the rail during milling operations? To complete all the mechanical machining with a single positioning: head, foot and through holes, as well as undercut.
Mono-block structure
The Quad Rail modules consist of a mono-block structure carved from a single piece, able to guarantee the unique characteristics of rigidity, robustness and reliability over time, without necessary maintenance.
Electronic control
Special electronic control equipment in the dashboard version is able to control the magnetisation and demagnetisation cycles of the modules or of the individual magnetic sectors, even via remote control.
Advantages
The advantages of Quad Rail systems:
- The foot and head of the rail are accessible with a single positioning
- No vibration during machining
- Uniformity of workholding (better finishes and tolerances)
- Strong and precise workholding
- Perfect alignment of the rail
- Quick and easy positioning
- Easy chip removal
Modularity
A Quad Rail system consists of modular elements that create magnetic banked panels of variable length to adapt to different types of rails. Each module consists of 2 distinct magnetic workholding sectors for holding the foot and head of the rail, developing an overall holding force of 14 ton/m.
For the production of rails and railway switch points, Tecnomagnete offers QuadRail modules, intended for workholding rails. The system can be adapted to all types of rails by means of shaped pole extensions. The main advantages: fast clamping time, complete accessibility for simultaneous processing of foot and head.
Below are the different configurations available, in relation to the type of processing and the machine.
QR/T (TOP)
The simplest solution: it guarantees complete access to the rail.
QR/S (SINGLE)
Designed for heavy machining, with large removals on the head as well, composed of 2 magnetic areas at 90°.
QR/TW
Compact composition for “C” machines. With 2 mirrored workholding areas, it allows complete machining of the rail in 2 positionings.
QR/TWT
It combines the features of the T and TW versions: complete access and large removals in a single solution.
